BMW 528i

Mileage

Service Date
8/21/2019
Services Performed
  • Manually disengage transmission to allow for portability of vehicle locked in park electronically.
  • Engine compression test was performed dry at first, which yielded no compression. Wet compression retest was performed also yielding no compression. Advised customer. Suggested plan of action is to remove the camshaft to determine whether valves are bent/not sealing.
  • Valve cover removed to gain access to camshaft for removal and further testing of engine/valve integrity. Upon its removal it was discovered that all VANOS bolts have sheared off the VANOS adjustment unit. Large sections of bolt heads were removed from the top of engine, but smaller fragments are still unaccounted for. Advised customer to contact BMW for possible remedy through recall/extended warranty. Work at MMW has been halted pending further instruction. Remedy through MMW is recommended as complete engine replacement due to unknown engine condition and cost effectiveness.
